I don't know what kind of tree this is...
but you can guess...I won't try to climb it...
look at the size of the thorns....
when I first saw the thorns..I thought I might could make stars out of them...
but at closer look realized they are individual...

I don't know what those spines are either, but we discovered one of those trees on the back of our property when we first bought it - it was covered in them! It soon died. So I'm wondering if the spines are a parasite (like mistletoe) which will eventually kill the tree...
