Weather and Questions.....

Beautiful day for a walk...blue skies...
fluffy clouds....

well not here in Texas....and not this weekend...

cold grey skies.....bitter cold.....
That is the weather we had this weekend....
I just thought I would show the pretty blue skies 1st...
Hubby and I went to the movies on Saturday...
went to see Crazy Heart with Jeff Bridges...
we really enjoyed it....I wouldn't say it was
the best movie I've ever seen but...it was enjoyable...
if you like country music...it has some good tunes in it...
This brings me to my next question.....
Do you ever bring your own goodies in with you to the movie??
When my kiddos were little I usually always packed snacks
and drinks for them....healthier and cheaper....
now Hubby and I take snacks with us...
we usually go by the Dollar Store...and he gets his
Milk Duds...and Goobers for $1 each....I get me
beef jerky...and a lemonaide....so much cheaper than
at the theater...Hubby usually does by a soda and a
small popcorn....But boy after you pay $18-$20 to get in...
it can really add up...and it is hard to get healthy at the
theaters....Have you seen any good movies lately?
Do you ever go rent movies at a rental place anymore?
Inquiring minds want to know....

Hi Deb,
In the theatres near us you are not allowed to bring your own snacks. The theatre makes tons of money from the concession stand. Ray and Michael go almost every weekend to see a movie and were shocked a few weeks ago when their snacks came to almost $40.00. They didn't buy anything different than they usually buy, the prices jumped almost 50%. Crazy!

Can't remember the last movie we went to see - haven't been for years!!!! Heard it is expensive to buy snacks there - but I don't think they allow you to take stuff from elsewhere in, so they make you buy - or you go without. Movie tickets are expensive here too. Will find out online and compare! Although need to convert into American dollars ..

Had a look at online tickets (which makes no difference if you buy online or at movies). Depends on theatre - most are R20(SA Rands) and then the art/classic movies are R48 (SA Rands). Avatar - the new 3D movie is R65 (SA Rands).
To convert you have to multiply by the rand/dollar rate. Don't know what it is at the moment, but it's usually around 10:1 (10 Rand to 1 dollar) ..... that's why it's so expensive for us to travel overseas!!!!!!!

I wish those blue skies would come back!! It's so grey, gloomy, & cold in my part of Texas this morning, again!
I haven't been to a movie in a while but I do usually try to sneak my own stuff in....lol....way too expensive in the theatre!

We were just talking about this over the weekend. There's an old movie theatre in Daingerfield, TX, where you can get everything for under $6.00 a person - movie, bucket popcorn, large Coke. Great place for a cheap date!
But I have sneaked in my own snacks to the bigger cinemas. Can't justify the ticket price AND the price of snacks, especially for a movie that's mediocre. We still rent a lot of movies, and use NETFLIX. Interesting post.

You are lucky that your movie theater still lets you bring in snacks. Ours does not. And at the beginning of this rule, they even checked to see what was in 'bags.' Not so much now, on checking I guess. But I'd not know, because we go rarely and when we do, I bring my water bottle and what easily fits in my regular bag.

See, a theater makes the most of its money, on the concession stand. And so, they don't like losing that money. And like I said, here....... They "forbid" it. :-)

Happy February!

Hell Deb,
How wonderful to be able to visit.
This was a great read, as we do the same when we go to the movies, I think it is terrible the prices they charge for refreshments.
Our daughter lives in Texas, and she told us this morning it was very cold, what has happened girl, usually by this time she is thinking about planting flowers. We are having crazy weather too.
Thank you for all of your well wishes, please tell Judanna I said hello, and I hope she get well soon.
Hugs,
Sue

We rarely go to the theatres, and don't rent movies much either. We do have PPV and HBO, so that's where we see movies occasionally. Snacks are always cheap at home!

We don't go to the movies much anymore. Darling daughter and I have a standing date for any new Harry Potter that comes out. And we did go see Inglorious Basterds in the theatre. Usually we rent from redbox or netflix if there's something we want to see, but there's not much out anymore that floats my boat! As far as snacks, sometimes we sneak in our own, usually we just cough up and split a large popcorn and each get a small drink. The prices really are obscene! Kathy

The only movies we go to generally are the ones we take our granddaughters, too. The cost is sooo ridiculous. I always sneak water and treats in my bag, though. A bottle of water is four dollars there! Yikes! We do a lot of Red Box rentals. Used to do Netflix but didn't watch it enough and the movies would just sit and sit sometimes.
