need your feed back...

I have a question for you all....
if someone sends you a card....note....encouraging letter...
Birthday...Holiday...just because...
do you let the person know you received it?

do you tell them the next time you see them...
hey I got your card...note...letter etc....

do you send them an e-mail...
or a text....letting them know you received it???

I'm thinking some folks just don't know what to do....
Well personally I think you should let the person know...
if the person spends time to send you something...
they don't want praises...they just want to make sure you got it...
you never know with the mail system...if  it was actually delivered..
with a e-mail or a text...it's easy to just answer back...
so just do the same when someone sends you a note...card...etc....
I have found from personal experience that about half  let you know...
the others you have to find away to ask them if they received it...
without looking like your wanting praise for it..
So what are you thoughts on the matter????

I do try to acknowledge a greeting I get from someone with at least a thank you, and I like to hear that something I have sent was received.

I definitely respond to something received in the mail (snail mail). If someone was thoughtful enough to send me something, I appreciate their kindness and want to let them know. Ideally, I try to respond in kind---that is, send them a "thank you" by return snail mail. I know that is not always practical, but an acknowledgement is desirable.

Yes you should respond by phone or snail mail....

Well, I'm a phone-a-phobe so I'd never pick up and call them. So I'd email if I could to say thanks for thinking of me. If they're not on the web (which some of my family are not) dang it, I'd have to try to remember to say something the next time we had contact...

Funny you should ask.
I have sent several things out and just assumed it was protocol....I would hear they received it. Not for gushing thanks or anything- I just assumed they WOULD let me know it got to them.
But never a word.
I have gotten so accustomed to NOT hearing they received something I sent- I don't even think about it anymore.
MAYBE they never HAVE received it....but I get too down waiting and hoping they'll say anything....
I have NO IDEA what protocol is anymore for this. I would have liked to think it was a quick mention of the fact at least?)

Yes!! Communication is always to be acknowledged...in my opinion! That's not to say I do that myself every time. Take Facebook and even our blogs. Every 'like' and comment cannot always be replied to! But generally speaking even in cyber space....common courtesy applies. I think people have not been taught manners as in times past. Perhaps they don't KNOW to respond.
Life is so much nicer when people treat each other with common courtesy. My sister wrote her grandchildren each a letter....stating that for 3 years she had sent cards, $, notes and gifts and not received a single response. She told them she loved them but "Manners MATTER." She signed her name and added her cell phone # saying she hoped they would call her when they did indeed find their manners!! They DID!! Good for her and good for YOU to address this!!

Thank you everyone for your feedback...I was wondering if it was just me..or had people really forgotten their manners...

I think you should let them know!

Let them know. I always feel terrible if I realize I forgot.

I think acknowledging in some way is a good thing. Whether it is a call, a text, an e-mail or another snail mail.

Yep, there should always be feedback. When my kids were learning this lesson, their grandma sent them - along with their birthday presents - a package of unused "thank you" notes along with pre-stamped envelopes. It was a great learning tool!

P.S. That cloud heart in your header is AWESOME. I gasped when I saw it! Thank you so much for linking to Guest Heart Thursday!

I think if someone takes the time to send you a note or card, it should be acknowledged. It is just common courtesy in my opinion...it's the way my Mom raised me & I raised my daughter.

Yes, I tell them in some form and thank them. But you're right, I think we've lost some of that over time. I love the heart in clouds. I keep looking for one those.

If they have email, I usually send them an email thanking them for the card.

I think you certainly should acknowledge receipt of it. I think it's appropriate to email, phone, or send a letter, whatever works for you.

Always, don't leave them wondering if you received it or not.

Love those hearts in the tree branches.

I have a ladybug heart today at Through Squirrel Eyes

If I receive a card from someone I let them know. I do not always hear from people I send cards to although It would be nice if they let me know if the received it. Hugs

You say thank you in any way that you can. And if you forget, you end up feeling very badly about yourself.

I have never thought about it, one way or the other, but I have almost finished reading a book that starts out with a letter that was delayed for 50 years. Kate Morton, if you are into books that soar through the years.

I pick up the phone and give a little shout to the sender. Even if only for a second. Then, I keep them in mind when I'm out and about for something I could send on special day for them in the future. T
