A visitor for the day....

I walked out the other morning to check on the garden...
and this little one was just sitting there....

a baby starling....

Nolan gave him a little sniff...

thankfully it was Nolan....not Jake...
Jake likes to grab them up....
and unfortunatley they don't make it...
he wasn't a bit scared of us...

hubby thought about us keeping him...
you can train them to talk....

Mr. Hawk must have got the memo that the babies are being pushed from the nest...

we ended up with a second one...
after Jake chased it through the fence to Rooster...
Rooster just barked at it....
we looked on the net to find out the care of the babies...
and decided they would be better off set free...
it says the Mom pushes them out of the nest...
and within 2 days they learn to fly and take care of themselves..

so we look for the safest place in the yard to let them go....

the second one we found was ready to take off...
much stronger than the first one....

we hope they make it....

Oh how cute! HOpe they make it, too. We found a land turtle in the yard yesterday, came out from the woods, I guess. How did you fare with the storms?

Good to know!! Sunday when we left to take the gk's home, Louis Dean spotted a baby zebra bird (wood pecker) on our stone walkway. It was cold and the bird was all puffed up. LD said not to touch it or the mother wouldn't have anything to do with it! Not sure if that is true or not! You know how men say things! It was fairly good size and it was NOT there when we got home later that night. So perhaps this one was encouraged to leave home as well!!
