calling all gardeners...
I need your advice....
I need suggestions of plants and or flowers....
to plant in my raised beds for the winter...
to add nutrition to the soil....
I'm not sure if it was the terribly hot summer...
or if the soil just wasn't ready for gardening...
but the only thing that grew was okra...
we are still getting some...
nothing else did good...
we've had a two day break from the world series...
needed it to get rested up...
sitting on the edge of your seat is tiring..
started working on holiday plans with the family...
it will be here before we know it....

Well for the winter... I just cut them off and hope they don't freeze:)...sorry I am NO HELP:) Good luck!
You might try Gaillardia, also called Blanket Flowers. They will grow most any where and don't mind dryness. Up here they bloom all summer and into fall. They will bloom here until we get freezing temps. The blooms are yellow and orange.

I am no help either! My garden did poorly this year too...do NOT know why.

how about if you take a little bag full of this soil, to your local County Extension Service... They could test it, and tell you what-it-needs.
Yes, things like following a World Series are fun. But exhausting too. I can't do it, any more. I just can't stand the tension, now that I'm "Olden." ,-)
But have lovely memories of following my Mets, in great times! Total dedication and what a time I had. -grin-

cant cook, can't garden, but i do EAT a lot... do you need any advice on eating? just kidding. sorry don't have a clue and the flowers are beautiful
Of course I am no help up hear in NY, but I could suggest calling a Cooperative Extension or asking in a Garden Center Which I am certain you already thought of, too, LOL!

I always heard that egg shells & coffee grounds are good things to put in your soil. But I don't have a garden- so I don't know for sure.
Yup, getting the soil tested is probably the best bet, but I think that some member of the pea family would be a good idea, let them grow, and fix nitrogen in the soil, then plough them under.
If those are your flowers in the pictures, you don't need any advice...they're beautiful.
