Debby at Just Breath did a nice post...
called You oughta be in pictures...
it brought tears to my eyes...
because I have always hid from the camera...
this post REALLY hit home....
what will my kids and grand kids think...
if there are no photos of their Mom or Oma...
I think this is a bad family trait...
that most women take the photos...
but never include themselves in them...
so what if you have a few extra pounds...
so what if your hair is a mess...
so what if you don't have makeup on....
your kids...and grand kids love you...
they care more about what is on the inside of you...
than the outside of you....

My Nana was always a little heavy...
but to me she is one the most beautiful women I have ever met...
she didn't wear fancy clothes...lots of makeup....
she always smelled fresh as a daisy...
I cherish her photos...
Thankfully my Mom has never hid from the camera...
so I have lots of photos of her...
My daughter does not hide from the camera...
she is very photogenic...
so the next time your taking photos of your family...
hand someone the camera...
smile....say cheese....

okay....even with her tongue stuck out...
my DIL is beautiful...

I have been to several funerals the last few years...
they show photos of the one lost...
I have thought to myself several times ...
while watching the beautiful memories...
will they be able to find any of me to share?
now that will make you stop and think....

Take Photos with your FAMILY.....

I agree, that we photographers tend to always stay behind the camera. And it's silly. Do we feel that (on top of never being happy with any pic of ourselves), it is sort of "pushy" to have pics of ourselves taken? I admit to both.

But ding-it... We ARE here. We need to have photographic evidence of it.

Wonderful post Deb. And you are so right! We should quit worrying so much about how we look and have pictures for our family to remember.

i run from the camera like it is a death ray when it is aimed at me. and you are right, all my family photos there are none with me, i have dozens of books of photos and until i married bob there were none of me, i am in a few, but when the kids used to come for holidays, i took the photos and am not in them.

if not for blogging and a need for some profile pics, i'd probably not have any of me to share at my funeral. :)

Oh, Deb! This was the perfect post! I hate the way I look now...I'm heavier than I have ever been! But, I asked my grandson to take a picture of me at the zoo, because I often am not in the pictures (I am usually taking them!) and I wanted to document that he and I went together. We should have asked someone to catch us together. next time.

So glad you liked my post. Let me tell you that you posting about it gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes. If each post touches just one person it is worth it.
Hope your post touches many also!

Yes Yes take pictures and be in the pictures. Family Friends Events.
I wrote about this same topic last year. I lost a very good friend and only had a few pictures of her. When I went to the memorial service there were very few current photos. I had taken one about 2 months maybe before but that's it. Pictures preserve memories and history. Good and bad.
