November 1st my FIL passed away....
just minutes before his heart stopped...
He loved sitting in his front yard...
under the shade tree...
keeping track of his neighbors..
giving them some times unwanted advice...
He was a hard working man...
he was crusty on the outside...
mushy on the inside...
he had a soft spot for anyone struggling...
my hubby remembers coming home for dinner...
to find a table full of kids he didn't know..
He loved his sons...
He loved his grandchildren...
he loved having his great son named after him...
He loved to pick at everyone...
he left home when he was 14 years old...
had a machine shop when he retired...
he liked living on the edge...
fast cars....hard headed women...
working hard...playing hard...
loved to argue...
would tear up at the drop of a hat..
but would have his fists ready just as fast...
he was a legion in his own time...
Rest in peace to my FIL...
Thank you to all who have sent well wishes and prayers...

You honored your father in law beautifully with your words about him.
What a blessing that your family had such a sweet, fun and interesting man in your lives.
He was a very handsome young man.
So sorry for your loss.
I'm sure it was a blessing...
But warm hugs to you all...
Gentle hugs,
"November comes
And November goes,
With the last red berries
And the first white snows.
With night coming early,
And dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.
The fires burn
And the kettles sing,
And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring."

My sympathy to you and your family. You wrote a very nice tribute to him.
I'm so sorry for your, and your family's, loss. You wrote a moving tribute of a real man - if I could I would underline and bold the word "man" here :-) With your words and photos, I can just imagine how he must have been, at times loving, exciting, exasperating - a man who truly *lived* his life and will be missed by those who knew him. Thank you for reminding the rest of us about the men (and women) like that in our lives, that we may be truly thankful for them!

a wonderful tribute to our FIL. and the majority of what you described here could be my dad. he was born in 1913 and I am thinking this is a description for those born back then.
My sympathies....
