Changes....
I have had a lot of changes in the last year and a half...
my son got married...
I lost 70 lbs.....
my daughter turned 21...
I have a grandson...
my husband and I have become closer...
with more time to spend together...
now that the kiddos are grown...
and now....
I think I'm starting the big M....
MENOPAUSE.....
most of the ladies I know have had hysterectomies...
so they don't have any thing to share with me...
what to expect....
I know you can look it up on the net...
but it is not the same as hearing about it 1st hand...
my cycles for the last year have been...
short...long...heavy...mild...
I think I've had a few hot flashes...
but here in Texas it's hard to tell...
it's so darn hot in the summer..
everyone has hot flashes...
my mind wanders....
get sappy over silly things...
also mad as a hornet over other...
have a hard time staying focused...
So ladies....
please pass on your wisdom to me...
am I starting the big M...
or am I just going nuts????

Life is nothing but changes.
Wow, big congrats on losing the 70 lbs. That is great for you and your health. I lost 45 lbs. right before I retired 5 years ago.
I went through Menopause about 8 to 10 years ago. Getting rid of that monthly "visitor" is the best part of getting "old". I had hot flashes and night sweats but that's all...no problems, no mood swings or anything like that. My cycles were shorter but extremely heavy the last 1 to 2 years that I had them.
Anytime you have any questions, just ask. I'll try to give you any answers I can.

Had a hysterectomy back in 2000 but they left the ovaries which left me to still deal with the Big "M". As far as hotflashes go, you don't think you had them, you will know. Picture Fred Flintstone when he would get mad and the steam would come out of his ears! I can feel it starting to rise from my chest and swear it's got to be coming out of my head! Concentration is a thing of the past. You adjust but it takes a while. Gone are my days of multi-tasking. No incredible mood swings for me but hear that can be a part of it. All in all, it's a rite of passage that most of us have to go through and it too will pass. Congrats on the weight loss (you go girl), the wedding and the grand. Its all good!
Hi i came over from Howdy from Cowtown...I think I am finally made it "to the other side" of menopause...it was like hitting a brick wall for me for about five years. The best advice I can give you is to buy the book The Wisdom of Menopause by Dr. Christine Northrup (I think that is the spelling)...you can get it on e-bay or her DVD's. She will help convince you that you are not going crazy!...your brain actually does get re-wired...Oh, I wish we were closer and we could talk...if it were not for my husband being "a rock" and the book I don't think I would have made it.
Hi Deb,
That weight loss is just amazing, you go girl! And I've been going through Menopause for the past several years and all your symptoms sound similar. The foggy brain just really gets to me. Only a bit of trouble with hot flashes but yes you will know when you have one.
Hang in there,
Cindy
Not much help here. Had a hyst at a young age. Finally off hormone pills though!!
I am quite a few years past menopause and was pretty fortunate to have few "symptoms". From what I have heard people say about hot flashes they had, I would prefer a foggy brain any day.
I pretty sure you are not just going nuts.
Congratulations on the weight loss! I was declared officially post-menopausal earlier this year. The year leading up to that milestone was a challenge. Mood swings - oh my. Hot flashes - I'm surprised I didn't spontaneously combust! I'm still having hot flashes - no HRT for me but I am taking something my doctor prescribed that helps some. You will LOVE reaching the milestond and saying goodbye to your monthly visitor. And someone mentioned concentration - it's true that my mind took a vacation for a while, but again, post-M I feel clearer, smarter and stronger.
Hang in there - it get's better!
P.S. I LOVE the picture at the top of your blog!
Congrats on the weight loss! Great job! My worst hot flash happened while I was shopping at Walmart the sweat was dripping off me, I felt like putting my head in the freezers!
Sorry, not much help from me. I had a hysterectomy when I was 33 but still have one ovary. I don't think I'm quite to the age yet for menopause but I do have the mood swings and the fuzzy brain syndrome. I can cry over the silliest things. I sometimes wonder if I am pre-menopausal. I'm not looking forward to the hot flashes, it sounds like being in hell without ice water. Hang in there.
Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy... couldn't live without it (well, okay, I could LIVE... but, probably no one else in my vicinity would!) LOL! Good luck, Deb!
Sounds like the big M to me... but I'm one of the hysterectomy gals, so I can't offer any personal experiences.
