Mothers Day ideas

it is hard to believe today is the last day of April..
this month flew by...
Mother's Day is just around the corner...
it got me to thinking...

my favorite Mother's Day gifts have always been the simple...
heart felt ones...made by my children...
homemade cards...crafts from school...

so I decided to put together a list of things...
I think most mothers would love to have....
all they take is a little time and imagination...

  1. a home made card...with photos...a poem...or just heartfelt words..
  2. a top ten list of your favorite childhood memories
  3. a coupon book with errands or chores (make sure they are ones you can and will complete)
  4. if you are a musician or singer...play or sing a special song for your Mom
  5. photos of the grandkids are always great...snapshots are better than the studio type...
  6. a date with your Mom...doing something she enjoys...doesn't have to cost a dime...can be a picnic lunch and a stroll...or sitting on the porch swing with iced tea and photo albums...remembering fun times
  7. if you are a blogger do a blog post with all the wonderful things about your Mom...or even a facebook post....
  8. pick a bouqet of wildflowers and put in an unusal vase...thrift stores have tons of things to make vases out of...or decorate a jar or can...
  9. if your Mom is a crafter...ask to spend an afternoon crafting with her...you might just learn something
  10. time....take time to spend with your Mom...show her how much she means to you...tell her what you have learned from her
All a Mom wants is to feel like her children love her...
and appreciate her...the fancy gifts...expensive meals...
aren't important...her reward is her children...
showing their love in their own special ways...
true feelings always outway money...

some days are smooth sailing...
everything just goes along nice and smooth...

other days you feel like your being crashed by waves...
about to knock you down at any time...

you may feel like just hiding you head...
hiding from the world...
today was a crazy day as I posted in my earlier post...
well it got crazier...
I managed to lock us out of my office....
no keys..no phone...
boy now would have been a good time to know how to pick a lock...
thank goodness my daugher was here to help with little britches...
I looked all over for a spare key...to know avail...
I could here the phone in my office ringing off the hook...
including my cell phone...
I was using my daughters phone...trying to get in touch
with hubby...whose phone was going to voice mail...
cause he was calling the office...and my cell...
trying to varify an address where he had a meeting...
finally connected with him...but I didn't have my
appointment book....the only way my daughters phone was working... was to go outside...not getting a good signal for some reason...so I'm using her phone trying to find the phone number...
of the fellow that had the address of the space...
my husband was trying to find...well he wasn't answering...
finally he called me back...verified the address..
guess who had been sitting in the next parking lot over...
the whole time...so he was out of my hair...
we have a closet in my office that goes under our
future stair case...it is boarded up for now till the stairs are built...
so I had to find a screw driver and remove one of the boards...
my daughter having longer legs than me...crawled over..
and let us in...

what a day...I'm exhausted...
but I'm alive...little britches kept me sane...
with his sweet smile...hugs...
and a cute little song I taught him...
skidly rinky dinky dinky...
skidly rinky doo...
I love you...
skidly rinky dinky dinky...
skidly rinky doo.....
I love you...you...you...you...
nothing can bring you back up faster than that...
oh don't get me wrong...he was a handful today..
a busy bee...a short nap...talking non stop...
into everything...the usual power struggles...
if it hadn't been for him...I may have just hid under the bed...
Ever have days like that????

hubby got my trellis for the green beans built...
they are really starting to grow...
this has been a crazy day already...
I've been trying to get this post done all morning...
with the warm up in the weather...
my office phone has been ringing off the wall

the lawn guys were suppose to come around noon...
they showed up at 9:15...
which meant I had to get all the dogs to their correct places...

because Ginger and Rooster will bite strangers...
thankgoodness everyone was pretty cooperative today...
we've hit a little lull so I'm trying to get this post done...
at one time I had 3 calls going at the same time...
my Dad had someone drop off a flyer for a BBQ...
I'm excited..I'm in real need of a little road trip...
of course Ginger and Rooster were going nuts...
Nolan and Jake in the other yard...barking...
the border patrol was in full force...
my Dad had warned him about them...
so he knew not to open the gate....
well there goes the phone...
hope your day is calmer than mine...
I feel like a dog chasing my tail today...
I'll let you know if I catch it...

It is a hot one here in Texas today...
we are suppose to set a record for this date...
I refuse to turn on the a/c yet...
we are actually doing quite well with the fans running...
there is a nice breeze outside...
a hot breeze but the air is moving...

a great day for laundry...
the clothes are drying on the line nicely....
this morning as I was trying to get the first load hung up...
little britches was into everything...
I noticed a lot of butterflies flying around...
so I pointed them out to him...
he said touch it...I said if you can catch it...
he ran all over the yard chasing butterflies...
there were probally 20 of them flying around...
he never caught one...but it kept him busy for a minute or two...
I got the last items on the line anyway....

this reminded me of a story my Mom told me...
from when she was little...
she was a bit of a handful herself...
always up to something...
she always wanted to catch a bird...
so her Great Grandmother told her...
if you sprinkle salt on their tail they can't fly...
and you can catch one...
so off she went...with a salt shaker...
chasing birds...
kept her busy...
and nope she never caught one...
she said she realized when she was older...
if she got close enough to put salt on it's tail...
it would be easy to catch...

isn't it funny what adults come up with...
to keep children entertained...
so they can get work done...
do you have any good ideas to share????
As an Oma I can always use ideas...
to keep little britches busy for a minute or two...

when we were at the lake on sunday...
we saw some interesting sights...
there was a sky writer...

this fellow was paddling on a surf board...
all way across the lake...
it was a windy day...
I was impressed with the arm and leg strength he must have...
come to find out he was parked just a few vehicles over from us...

there were a lot of sail boats...
this one was getting turned around..
to head into the wind...

hubby found this piece of drift wood for me...
(we found you one too Mom...)

someone had a little mishap with their bobber...
I guess they didn't know you can't catch a fish in the tree...

there were lots of boats and jet ski's flying across the water...

I wonder how many were sunburned on Monday morning...

these ducks were riding the waves...
looks like they have done it before...
Rooster just sat and watched them...
after their swim...they had a little spa time...
and then they were off...

Happy Tuesday...
I have a new facebook page...
Debs Ladybug...
where I will be sharing frugal...and earth friendly
ideas I find...would love to see you...

Hug Pawpaw

I just had to share this one...
it is my new screen saver...
two of my favorite guys...
I think I'm the last Texan to post bluebonnets...
I hope you can stand seeing a few more...
but this was the first chance I've had to photograph them...
we went to Joe Pool Lakes on sunday...
there were still a lot left.....

It was a beautiful day...
the sun was shining...
there was a cool breeze...
we brought Rooster with us...
he enjoyed laying around being lazy...

the state park was full of families...
it was so nice seeing everyone out enjoying themselves...
I couldn't believe folks were actually swimming...
the water is still too cool for me...
of course Rooster didn't mind...

we had a nice weekend...
Saturday we got my last 3 cages for my tomatoes...
I bought 4 more strawberry plants...
I bought some marigolds...hopefully they will help...
keep the skeeters off my patio...
Saturday night we watched little britches...
we took him and Rooster to the park...
I don't know who had more fun...
It was funny I asked hubby...
are we going to the P*A*R*K (spelling it)
little britches shouted out PARK...
we both just looked at each other...
he said Yeah park...slide....
so off we went...
when we got back...after a snack..
little britches and Papaw sat in the floor...
played with trucks and cars for over an hour...
they were both ready for bed....
Sunday hubby and I went to brunch...then the lake...
came home for a nap...
then our daughter joined us to take Rooster to the park...
A very nice weekend was had by all...
How was your weekend???

Today is Earth Day...
a day to celebrate our Earth...
no matter what your religious beliefs...
political beliefs...
color or creed...
we can all agree on one thing...
without the Earth....where would we be???

I've made changes around here...
I want the Earth to be a great place...
for little britches...for his children..

I no longer buy paper towels or napkins...
we use cloth napkins (made by my sweet Mom)
we use cloth towels (made by my sweet Mom)

I make my own dish washing soap...
cleaners....mosquito repellent...
laundry detergent (my Mom made the 1st two batches)
all with natural ingredients...
I hang most of my laundry on my clothes line to dry...
rarely use my dryer...
planted a veggie garden...
use a soaker hose to water it...
the majority of my shopping is at thrift stores...
I buy more fresh and frozen produce...
less canned and processed foods...
I hope these few little things...
combined with others doing little things...
will all add up to a better Earth...
I'm not writing this post to brag...or boast...
just to let myself see in print...
that I might be making a small difference..
what are things you do?
I would love to try more things...
any suggestions?

look at this cool bag my Mom made me...
to keep my clothes pens in....

it works great ....you just slide it along with you...
she made it from a scrap of material she had...
a hook off of an old shower curtain...
and a clothes hanger...
see what can be made from things you have on hand...
and a little imagination...
tomorrow is Earth day....
a celebration of our Earth...
now that is a day worth celebrating...

little things make a big difference....
tomorrow I'm doing a post on a few things I've been doing...
to make a difference...
I'm not an extremist...
but I do feel like we can all do our part...
Happy Saturday....
have you smiled today?

: )

this morning Little britches and I made a kite...

we took it outside...
Rooster approved...
little britches ran around with it...
for a couple of minutes...
then....

he threw it into the dog water....

so I pulled it out...
set it out to dry....

he was then on to another adventure...
all this before 9:00 am...
we have another ripe strawberry...
I'm going to let little britches pick it in the morning...
he's been waiting...

Can you stand a few more butterfly photos???

I'm so enjoying all the butterflies....
not the mosquito's though...
I found a recipe for mosquito repellant...
it's super easy....and it seems to work...
1/3 cup vinegar or apple cidar vinegar
1/3 cup witch hazel or cheap vodka
5 drops citronella or eucalptus essential oil...
put in a spray bottle....
shake it up each time...
very cheap to make...
doesn't have that bad smell of commercial brands...

have you smiled at someone today?
:)

we took Rooster to the park tonight...
I hit the jack pot with ladybugs...

guess what....they made me smile...
it was a busy day....
little britches was a handful today...
a sweetie most of the day...
but....well anyone that has ever had kids...
knows what I'm talking about...
so ladybugs and smile were good...

thank you for all the sweet comments on my last post...
I think the photo of little britches and the guys was the favorite...
I'm gonna have to frame that one for sure...

I hope your not getting tired of my Oma stories...
but my blog is mostly about what goes on in my day to day life...
I try to find interesting tidbits to share with you...
but I usually just follow my heart when I write a post...
most of the time I don't know what I'm going to write...
till it just sort of spills out...
Happy Wednesday....
: )
