The Bird Show

click on the link to find out a little more...

this was the coolest show ever...

some of the birds flew in from the Big Texas Ferris Wheel.....

we were so amazed that the birds of prey...
could be trained so well...

today was a busy day....
with the cooler temps...the morning low was 39 degrees...
a record for this date...it only lasted a few minutes....
but was still a record...
my phone was ringing...people needing their heat...

I had errands to run today....
I forget that it was a holiday...
every where was crowded...
especially for a Monday....
it was sunny....after a grey weekend...
everyone was out to soak up the sun...
on a nice cool day....
this is a cute little part of the show...

If you aren't registered to vote...
tomorrow is the last day....
Let your voice be heard...

 I love watching dance performances...
all styles...I was fasinated with their dresses...

the amazing designs they made with them....
I've learned so much about the Hispanic culture...
it is so rich in family and tradition....

when my daughter was 12 she was looking to teach dance...
she had been demonstrating for classes at her dance studio...
since she was 7 or 8...
one of the youngest demonstrators they ever allowed...

at this time she was in the Ballet company of our town...
I was on the board...we were having our annual
Nutcracker Performance...we always gave away free tickets
to groups that could not other wise afford to go...
I had received a newsletter with different groups listed...
one of the groups was the Trinity River Mission...

I spoke with the director....offering them tickets...
she said she would love to take them...
but transportation would be an issue...
so we should pass the tickets on to another group....
she said she had always wanted to expose the kids to dance....
I told her about my daughter...she wanted to meet with us...
we went there not knowing what to expect...
we felt welcome immediately...
one month later my daughter started a dance program...
it started out with about 10 girls 6 and 7 years old...
in their kitchen...it soon grew...
the owner at her dance studio started inviting her group...
to perform at shows with their dance studio...
even their dance recitals...

she choregraphed dance recitals at the mission...
the families were very involved...
she choregraphed three nutcracker performances...
she even had boys join the program...
she had guest performers from her dance studio come...
the TRM family and her dance studio family joined together...
we learned about their culture...they learned about ours...
we have become very close friends with several of the families...
enjoying 15th birthdays...weddings...baby showers...
graduations...
She also went to work at the mission for a couple of years...
Two of her TRM girls went on to Booker T. Washington school of the performing Arts...one graduated and is attending Sam Houston..
studying dance...receiving dance scholarships...
one is a senior there this year...applying to dance at SMU
...another is a Senior this year...
she is applying to dance schools also...
Two of the three moved to her dance studio when she left the mission to continue their dance education...
one is left...she is also a dance assistant...
during breaks our college girl comes back to take classes...
to assist with classes...
My hubby and I get really emotional about our girls..
watching them perform...seeing what a difference our daughter made in their lives...and what a difference these girls made in her life...
all from a phone call...

Hubby and I went to the State Fair on saturday...
we like going to all the shows...
the first one was this dog show....

this dog was a real jumper...
started giving us ideas on our own dog show...
with Rooster and Ginger...lol...

not with frisbees...but soccer balls...and tennis balls...

all the dogs in the show were rescue dogs...
just goes to show that they don't have to have a fancy pedigree...
to be super smart and talented...

Fall hit Texas...
we've dropped 40 degrees.....
it was the perfect day to go to the Fair...
a lot of other people thought the same thing...
we walked a lot of miles...
ate junky food...
saw good shows..
spent too much money....
missed the train to go home...
would have had to wait a hour and a half for the next one...
so we took a taxi home....
we were too tired to wait...

our weather is changing as I type...
a cold front is blowing in...
we were in the 90's yesterday....
the high is gonna be in the low 50's tomorrow...
Big Changes...
Our Texas Rangers have one last shot at the play offs...
it's not looking so good...
they are down by one run...
it could turn around...
even if it doesn't they played a good season...
you can't win them all...
I know no one likes to loose...
but being a good sport about...sure makes a difference...
no excuses...it's just the way it is...
unfortunately I think being a good loser has been lost...
too many throw fits...or blame others...
instead of just saying...hey I lost...
hey I did my best...but didn't win...
hey I should have been more prepared...
congratulations to the winner....

it was the altitude...not able to use my teleprompter...
I wasn't treated fairly....
There's always a winner...always a looser...
but there is sure a big difference...
between a graceful looser...
and a spoilt brat not my fault...looser...
I saw a baseball player throw a bat tonight..
because he struck out...
I saw a golfer chunk his club...
because he hit a bad shot...
Loosing is not the end of the world...
you can always learn a lesson from each loss...
which in turn makes you a winner...

Comments on...Comments off...
what makes people decide to turn off their comments??
it seems like when I run across comments off...
it makes me want to comment even more...
crazy isn't it....

Why does a do not enter sign...
makes some people want to enter even more...
is it the challenge???

why do children always think other peoples toys...
are way cooler than theirs...
they can have the exact same toy at home...
but on the playground the other kids toy is so much cooler...
dogs and cats seem to be the same way...
the dogs want the cat toys.....
the cats want the dog toys....
people with straight hair want curly...
people with curly want straight...
short people want to be tall...
tall people want to be tall...
but in the end is that really what we want???
once you get the other thing...
is it really any better?? or more exciting???
usually not....
I guess it is all a part of the learning process..
learning who you are...or who you aren't....

I had a different day today...
I didn't think I was getting Hotrod...
then DIL got a call to go into work...
so I got him around 10:00...
they had been headed to the park when she got the call...

so I decided to take him to the park when he got here...
it was a nice morning to go..not too hot...little bit of a breeze..
we both enjoyed ourselves..
the park has a big hill going up to the rec center...
he loves to climb it...
we did it five times... I might not be able to walk tomorrow...
we had a good day....no messy art projects though...
he even played in the sprinkler...it was in the 90's today...
October... and still able to have a little summer fun...
not for long though...a cold front is moving in...
Saturday we are suppose to be in the 40's...
crazy Texas weather...
we went for a nice walk with my daughter...Hatari...and Nolan...
a bit of a circus....2 dogs and a 2 year old....
but worth every minute of it...
I just ran across a show on TLC...
Down South Dance...about cloggers...
there is a show for everything now...
hmmm maybe we should start a blogger show...
but who would be the star...we all like being behind the camera...
Maybe Sandra...or Auntie...or Texwisgirl...or...
Rooster...or Ginger...or....Debby....Nanny...
Maggie...Linda...Jill...Janie...Michelle...Nancy...
..soo many to name...
you are all stars to me...

if you get a chance stop by to visit DebbieWisdom
she has a good blog post....

Hubby cooked a pot of chili tonight....
sure was good...
I cooked the kidney beans today in the crockpot..
I love my crockpots...then he added his magic....

I thought I had burnt up my microwave today...
I was trying to melt crayons...
I found a cute idea to melt broken crayons...
into one big one...well they were starting to melt...
checked on them...my microwave quit working...
I unplugged it...tried it a few hours later...
it came back on...
I guess I over heated it...
will need to melt the crayons in the oven next time...

I made another batch of powder laundry detergent...
it is so easy....grade a bar of soap...
add a cup of Borax...a cup of super washing soda...
if you use a cheese grader that grinds it small...
you just mix it all together...
if your grader makes it bigger you can throw it all into
a blender or food processer....
I add a few drops of essential oil....
like rosemary...mix well....all done...
it only takes 1 tablespoon per load...
2 tablespoons if extra dirty...
I have found a cool fabric softener too...
I have a lot of mint...I put it in vinegar...
leave it a week to ten days...
take the mint out....it smells so good...
then I use the vinegar in the rinse cycle...
the clothes are so soft...and have a nice mint smell...

the sports teams in Texas ....
are sure causing a lot of activity on Facebook...
I guess the Cowboys lost really bad on Monday night football...
I'm not a big sports fan...I do like baseball...
I love the Rangers...hubby likes to watch Golf...
let me tell you he spent the ENTIRE weekend watching a golf tournament...
I ended up watching movies on my phone on Saturday...
Sunday I talked him into getting out of the house...
 to a local sports bar...
he watched Golf...I watched the Rangers...

aren't these the cutest little foot prints....
still holding on to barefootin'.....
we are staying really warm in the afternoons...
this weekend we are cooling down a bit more...
Are you a big Sports Fan?
or can you live without em?
How about your hubby? Do they drive you nuts with them?
and the remote...holy cow..that is a whole other story...
I'll save that for another time....

we had such an interesting moon tonight...
with clouds covering and  uncovering it...
I decided to have a little photo shoot...
I played with the settings on my camera...
I still haven't figured out how to get good night shots...

but that didn't stop me from posting...
I deleted a lot of them...
these I thought these would be good for October...
see more baby steps towards fall....

there was another small earthquake in our area last night...
we didn't feel it here..it was on the other side of town...

had a fun day with Hotrod today....
he's still hanging on to summer too...
loves playing in the water...

it was in the low 60's this morning...
he didn't understand why he couldn't play in the water....
I told him he had to wait till it warmed up...
so he kept telling me it was getting warmer...
by mid morning...we filled up his water table...
he was happy as a clam....

I'm really excited...
looks like we will have a nice group for our Thanksgiving...
1st Annual Family Walk/Run...
Now just hope the weather co-operates...

Sending prayers out to my Step Mom and a family friend...
they are both going through cancer treatments...
if you could include them in your prayers I would appreciate it..

thank you Sandra...aka the Madsnapper...
you've got me hooked on Picmonkey....
if you haven't tried it....you should...
you don't have to download anything to your computer...
