I'm on my soap box again...

Okay...here goes....what is wrong with our Dr.'s today????? Have they
forgot how to listen to their patients???? I think they have....Last year
my Mom went to the Dr. with stomache pains....and bad acid reflux....
oh I think it is your lungs because you have smoked....went through all types of
tests....believe it or not her lungs were in excellent shape...well it must be your
heart...you are over 60...went through alot of heart tests....stress test...no
great shape....well...oh yeah you have suffered depreciation in your life...it must be that..
no Dr. my pain is right here...what is here???oh your pancreas....do you think you
might run a test on it...okay we will...but not likely that is what it is.... well the numbers
came back about double or triple what they should be....call from Dr. you need to get
to emergency room now....spent 6 hours in emergency room before anyone even looked
at her....ran all kinds of tests spent nearly a month in the hospital...scratched their head
couldn't get numbers down...sent her home...she changed her diet...guess what...she
got her numbers down....

At the end of April of this year she fell...her dogs hit her from behind when they were
playing chase...she hurt her knee and caught herself with her hands... well a few weeks
later she was really sore....went to the Dr. every thing looks okay...will just take time...
your over 60...well time went by....pains got worse....Dr. said I think it is depression...
maybe menapause...you are over 60...no Dr. it isn't... never had depression make me feel this way....weeks went by...musclesstarted curling up in arms....waking up at night.....maybe it is athritis...no it's not my joints...it's in the muscles...then arm starts going numb....severe pain....really the Dr. says....it seemslike depression...try this medicine....tried the medicine...made her feel like a zombie...
but guess what...the pain is getting worse...finally in September after throwing a fit...
we will send you to a specialist....went to specialist....no it is not in your head....did a lot
of tests...asked if other Dr. ran an MRI...no he thought it was in my head... Dr..said we need
to do a MRI but have to get approval from your insurance company....will call you to set
up...no phone call...week went by...left messages...no return phone call...I told her let me
have the Dr.'s number...it had been 2 weeks since the appointment...she is getting worse
can't sleep...severe pain...arms numb...feet going numb...neck hurting...but hurting terrribly....finally got to the Dr.'s assistants...told her it had been 2 weeks...do we need to take her to emergency room...or are you going to get the MRI scheduled...well the Dr. has to call insurance company...
why hasn't the Dr. called the insurance company????? will call you back when I find out what
is going on....well when will that be...she can't take much more of this....I gave her one hour...
called back...got voice mail of course....left a message...we need to get this done now...or I
will take her to emergency room today...15 minutes later...got a phone call...we can do it
tomorrow...so it was finally done yesterday...took almost an hour...now it will take 24-48
hours to get results....you can bet I will be on the phone tomorrow if we have not
heard from them....

Trying to get a prescription re-filled for my father in law....call into pharmacy...we will
have to notify Dr.....okay....he has been on the same blood pressure medicine for 10 years
or more....call the pharmacy next day...no have not heard from the Dr. office.....call
Dr. office...leave voice mail...I mean you can't talk to a person....no response....call
the pharmacy...no word from Dr. will send another request....leave message with Dr.
office...no call back....call pharmacy...guess what no response...finally get a real person on
the phone...well this real person wants to know what medicine...give her the name...spell
it...I'm not finding it in his chart...how many refills are left on his bottle??? no refills are
left that is why I am calling you....well what has he been taking?? give her the name again...
we go through this routine several times....she will have to call me back....well believe it
or not she does...he will need to come in to see the Dr.....he has an appointment next week...
why can't we get this filled...the pharmacy loans us 3 pills to get us through....call back to
Dr.'s office...get a person that understands what I am saying...says we will get approval
from the Dr.....finally...after a week of trying...the prescription is filled...2 more prescriptions
are up for renewal...took them with us to his appointment to get filled....

Thank you...I feel so much better now....

Wow, those incidents are deserving of a rant. Sure hope your mom's MRI provides a diagnosis that leads to some relief.

My goodness! What a chain of events! It's sad but I think some doctors don't take women seriously when they complain about pain. I know there are studies out there that prove it. I hope mom feels better real soon. Please give her a hug for me!
You are a wonderful daughter and advocate for your mom and FIL.
Hugs, Loretta

So frustrating! My hubby went through two years with intense sholder pain before being diagoned with a herniated disc in his neck. The doctor he had at the time was such a loser! He constantly dismissed hubby's concerns. Now he has a wondeful doctor who is right on top of things.
Best wished to your mom.

Hi Deb,
That sounds so frustrating. I hope they finally get some tests and find out what is wrong with your mom. It's a good thing you were there to step in!

Not to sound like a hater, but I think the whole medical profession is a hoax. They don't listen to us and tell us to take 500 tests, which comes out of our pocket. I think if a Dr. is that stupid, they should have to pay for the tests. I have found only one doctor, my ob-gyn. When I called him and told him something was wrong, he knew I was serious and needed to be seen immediately. I fight doctors for my kids, too. Thankfully, the Dr. giving performing surgery on my daughter this week is in our church and our choir director. He knows me and my kids. I also know his wife. I also know he is one of the few really good doctors that I would not have to pester. However, if he didn't respond... I could always call his wife. Heehee!! ;0)
